A fun and active way to prepare for your birth.
Dancing for Birth™ classes incorporate dance moves from around the world and antenatal education that best prepare you to give birth.
Birth can be like a marathon, and Dancing for Birth™ classes prepare you for the challenge. You'll become stronger, more agile, more at ease with your body and both mentally and physically ready to embrace your unique birth experience.
Dancing for Birth™ participants have reported experiencing low levels of disomfort, few or no interventions, brief labours and high levels of satisfaction during their births.
You'll learn birthing dance moves inspired by African dance, Latin dance and Caribbean dance, as well as how to encourage baby into an optimal fetal position, birthing using the power of gravity, and the importance of of keeping your oxytocin levels high for that feel good factor.
It's a feel-good workout that challenges yet relaxes and uplifts you. No experience necessary!
Classes are held on the last Wednesday of the month, and after each class we will focus on a different topic which will aim to support you during your pregnancy, birth and beyond.
Wednesday 27th June 6-8.30pm: Dancing For Birth™ followed by "Breathe!: Surrender to the moment, and know that this too shall pass”. Breathing is something that we have done since the moment we were born, something that we take for granted. In a birth it is essential for keeping focused and relaxed. During this session, I will share with you different breathing techniques to help stay calm, relaxed and confident in your ability to birth your baby.
Wednesday 25th July 6-8.30pm: Dancing For Birth™ followed by "Rebozo; 101 things to do with a piece of cloth that will benefit both you and your baby". The Rebozo is the tradition shawl worn by Mexican women and used by tradition midwives in Mexico during pregnancy and birth to bring comfort to the woman and also to help re-position a baby if they are "back to back" or even breech. During this session I will share with you some simple techniques you and your birth partner can use with confidence.
Wednesday 29th August 6-8.30pm: Dancing For Birth™ followed by "Lullabies; songs to sing for connection and relaxation during your pregnancy and later with your little one". In every tradition and culture around the world you will find lullabies. They have the power to soothe a baby to sleep, not to mention the Mama! Research has shown that babies recognise the sounds and voices that they were exposed, to in the womb, when they are born. When we sing to our pregnant bellies, our babies hear it, and it can be soothing. If we then sing those same songs once baby has been born, they will remember that feeling of security and warmth they once had on the inside. The results can be amazing. Singing to your baby is such a wonderful way for either parent to connect with their child.
To gain the most out of these sessions, it is recommended that you come to all 3, however, you are welcome to attend as many or as few as you feel. Booking is essential as places are limited.
